Construction Process

Step 1: Select the lot.
The best homes start with the best home sites, and we have them or will get them. With home sites available in nine sought-after communities in Naperville, Plainfield, and Aurora, choosing your lot can be one of the most fun and rewarding decisions in your home-building process. 

Step 2: Choose your model.
This is where it is all about you.  Do you prefer an elegant two-story family room?  A sprawling, open floor plan?  How about a first-floor master suite?  At Sterling Homes, we offer a variety of unique floor plans to satisfy even the most discriminating buyer.

Step 3: Mortgage Application.
At this point you should apply for your home financing.  At Sterling Homes, we recommend two approved lenders that we encourage you to work with.  These lenders have competitive rates, outstanding reputations, and extensive experience helping our customers.  Working with one of them may help to avoid unnecessary complications.

Step 4: Pick your lighting.
Sophisticated and dramatic?  Understated and streamlined?  Whatever your personal taste in home lighting, you will have the freedom to express yourself at The Galleria of Lighting in Naperville, where our knowledgeable Sterling Homes liaison will assist you.

Step 5: Choose your appliances.
Your kitchen is one of the main focal points of your home, so it is important that it represent you and your tastes, perhaps more than any other room.  At this stage, you will meet with our appliance provider, Ferguson Enterprises , to choose the appliances for your new home.

Step 6: Color Selection.
Choosing your color selections for your new home is one of the most fun steps in the homebuilding process, but also one of the most time-consuming.  Our design coordinator, Darlene Kwasniewski, will expertly assist you with this process to ensure that all of your questions are answered and you can make informed decisions that you will be pleased with for as long as you own your home.

Step 7: Pre-Drywall walk-through.
Your foundation is poured, your home is framed and ready for drywall.  At this point, you will have the opportunity to walk through your home with our construction superintendent to answer any questions you may have and to demonstrate you the quality craftsmanship that has gone into the “shell” of your home.

Step 8: Pre-Closing walk through
How exciting - your new home is completed and waiting for your smile of approval!  Our field superintendent will take you through your home and ensure that it exceeds your expectations prior to closing.

Step 9: Closing
The final documents are signed, the sale is complete, the keys are yours... You're home!

Step 10: One Year Punch List
You have enjoyed your Sterling Home for an entire year.  At this time you will have the opportunity to request a warranty visit from our team to repair any natural occurrences such as nail pops and drywall tape cracks due to settling.  At Sterling Homes, you will not be forgotten after closing, because we have built more than your home - we have built a lasting relationship.
